Winter activities

Winter activities: bundle up for a plethora of frosty outdoor activities

Are you more of an Arctic fox or a hibernating hedgehog? Whether you like to experience winter head-on or wrapped up in cozy blankets, there’s plenty to do at Mi-clos and in the region. In our neck of the woods, the winter months are the perfect time to warm up around a roaring fire and a dip in the hot tub, after a great day of downhill skiing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, ice skating, or just-deciding-to-do-nothing.

HIVER SKI DE FOND

Staying on top of things: skiing at high altitudes

Mont-Orford, the rooftop of the Eastern Townships, is home to a ski resort with a vertical drop comparable to the highest skiable mountains in Quebec (589 m vs. 645 m for Tremblant). Set in the unique, unspoiled environment of the national park, its 3 slopes offer exceptional panoramic views, a high-speed lift with gondola, 3 snow parks, and a state-of-the-art snowmaking system. No wonder Mont-Orford is such a popular destination for skiers and snowboarders! And with Mi-clos less than 8 minutes from the slopes, it’s the perfect complement to your winter stay at the domes.

HIVER - SKI DE FOND

Winter at its best: cross-country skiing

With more than 15 trails stretched over 50 km in classic cross-country and nearly 26 km in skate skiing, the Mont-Orford ski area offers one of the most complete cross-country skiing experiences in all of Quebec. Equipment rental is also available on site.

In the mood for an even wilder outing? Try out our own ski slopes on the property, groomed by our volunteer backcountry enthusiasts.

Snowshoeing and fat-biking: exploring the trails

The national park’s snowshoe trails will take you to the summits of our mountains or to the shores of our lakes. It’s the ideal place to spot the region’s spectacular wildlife. And if you’re in the mood for a shorter outing, set off directly from your dome on an expedition through our forest in search of owls, moose, or “our” pack of coyotes.

Are you more bike than skis? Hop on your fat bike and explore the national park’s well-maintained trails. Rentals available on site.

HIVER SKI ALPIN

For the love of skating: Magog’s frozen path

Running along the largest lake in the Eastern Townships, the Sentier glacé de Magog is an impressive 3 km trail that lets you show off your skills as a skater (or faller)! Located directly on the shores of Lac Memphrémagog, you’ll enjoy stunning frozen vistas as you glide along. Skate rentals on site…and a well-deserved treat at the end! Just head downtown and enjoy a local specialty, the traditional beaver tail, at BeaverTails on Merry (open year-round).

HIVER MUSÉE

Learning while hibernating: warming your spirits at the museum

It’s -40 out and the Weather Channel is announcing that today’s headwind will seriously threaten the survival of earlobes of all kinds. It’s time to head to Sherbrooke for an (indoor) cultural experience!

Sherbrooke’s Musée Nature Sciences offers a scientific and historical tour combining exploration of the animal kingdom (the AlterAnima permanent exhibit) and archaeological discoveries (exhibits of Abenaki artifacts). The Terra Mutantès multisensory show, which retraces the evolution of the region’s landscapes in an immersive experience—including continental drift and lava fields—is well worth the trip!

On Rue Dufferin, you’ll also find the Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke, featuring visual arts exhibitions by local and provincial contemporary artists.

Want to stay closer to Magog? Browse through the various galleries on Rue Principale—they showcase the magnificent work of local contemporary artists.
